Jack Layton an inspiration to Alberta workers:AFL mourns loss of great statesman and great friend

The Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL) is mourning the loss of Jack Layton – a great Canadian and a true friend of working people.

“The labour movement in Alberta recognized Jack as a great statesman and someone who stood up for working people,” says Nancy Furlong, secretary treasurer of the AFL, which represents 145,000 Albertans.

“He had a vision for this country that recognized and respected the vital role working people play in our communities and he fought for their rights. His conviction, his optimism and his courage, especially in the face of cancer, have been and will continue to be an inspiration to us all,” says Furlong.

“Canada needs more honest, hard-working people like Jack in politics. We, in the Alberta labour movement, will miss him. Our thoughts are with his family today.”
